1-day workshop

with Sarah Mijares Fick

lunch provided by Haema Hospitality

May 25th

10am - 5pm in Chatham, NY

$300

Participants will learn how to handbuild both opened and closed ceramic forms on a large scale (up to 20" H x 20" W). We will go over various coiling and slab techniques, surface texture, and what to be aware of when building larger works with clay. Each participant will sculpt one creation and will receive group and individual instruction.

An Asian street food-inspired lunch from Hudson Valley favorite, Haema Hospitality, will be provided midday.

After the workshop, pieces will be bisque fired and finished with a studio glaze of the student's choice. Alternatively, if students are experienced with glazing, they may pick up their bisque fired work and glaze their piece at home before returning it for the final firing.

Clay, the cost of firings, and lunch will all be included. Finished work will be ready for pickup 4 - 6 weeks after the workshop. Shipping or delivery is available for an additional fee.

Previous experience with clay is recommended, but not necessary.

This workshop is ideal for artists, designers, and creatives seeking an immersive ceramic experience beyond traditional pottery classes.

I took Sarah’s hand building class and it was so inspiring! As someone new to ceramics, I had lots of questions and was excited to learn about the various hand building techniques. Sarah is a great teacher, super patient, and so knowledgeable. I can’t wait to take more of her classes and workshops!

Besty

Sarah is an intuitive teacher who takes time individually to impart her wisdom, always leading with grace and patience.

She has studied with some of the greats in the ceramics world and it shows in her creative process and ability to pass on knowledge.

I have learned so much from her in the two hand-building classes I have participated in under her tutelage.

I really enjoyed my hand building classes with Sarah.  She is thoughtful, talented and very open- qualities which made for a really productive session.  So much so that I chose to continue on for another round.  A definite recommend!
